SUMMER-BORN CHILDREN

In September 2015 Schools Minister Nick Gibb called for admissions rules to be changed for children born between April 1st and August 31st.  This new ruling would give parents a choice about delaying school entry into Reception at school for a year.

More parents with summer-born children at the Ark are choosing to delay school entry until their child is 5 years old.  We are very happy to do this as we strongly believe that many children, especially the younger ones, can be delayed in their emotional development even though they are reaching all other developmental milestones in line with their peers born between September 1st and March 31st.

From September we are planning to spend whole days at Forest School with the provision of an 18ft yurt with wood burner for shelter in inclement weather.  Please also see our link to 30 hours of free child care funding available from September 2017 for 3-4 year olds.
